Go update your devices, because the 0.8.0 Minecraft Pocket Edition update has been released. Feel free to share any thoughts and pictures in the comments.
Skinning the way your character looks might possibly be included in the upcoming 0.9.0 update if Jeb and crew can figure out a way for it to work similarly to the PC version. He responded to a tweet about this just yesterday:
Jeb tweeted that most biomes will probably be added in the 0.9.0 update, which would include jungles and roofed forests. It makes sense with the infinite world size and the addition of the different types of wood into creative.
I got into the test group for the upcoming 0.8.0 update and I’m currently playing around with 0.8.0 alpha. Here are two screenshots for now.
Johan tweeted a picture of working minecarts earlier today. We have no information as to which upcoming update these will be in, but it’s still exciting.
We’ve got a few more updates on 0.8.0 and 0.9.0 to share. Pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns will be in 0.8.0, but without the ability to wear pumpkins as a helmet. This years MineCon has brought with it a lot of revealed additions to the upcoming 0.8.0 update and the later 0.9.0 update. Many of these have been revealed via tweets from those who went to MineCon, along with Reddit posts after the fact.
0.8.0 Update additions mentioned:
- Snapshots of the newer version for 1000 people to test
0.9.0 Update additions mentioned:
- Infinite worlds
- A mob that is too large for small worlds
- A special border biome for old worlds converted into be infinite
They’ve also confirmed that Realms will never be accessible by IP address and will always function the way it does now. Unfortunately, no pictures of these additions have been shared anywhere as of yet. Once the video of the Minecraft PE panel is posted by those who were lucky enough to go to MineCon, it will be posted, so check back.
We can assume that iron bars will function exactly the same way as cobblestone walls. Unfortunately, neither of these tweets from Johan and Tommaso include pictures of these additions.
Johan has already added quite a few new things to the upcoming 0.8.0 Minecraft Pocket update, but he added one more block to the game as well: cobblestone walls.
